Dolphin Research
Research scientists and organizations
are invited to submit applications to Dolphins Plus
to host individual research projects at our facility.
Projects for consideration will be non-invasive
and, as part of our mission statement, will promote
a greater understanding of marine mammal science.
High priority will be given to projects that utilize
state-of-the-art
technology, apply a multi-disciplinary approach,
and promote significant advances in the specified
field. We offer outstanding logistic support and
assistance when planning your research excursion.
We will do our best to accommodate your needs and
project requirements, so that you may arrive at
our facility and begin your research without delays.
 Program
Times:
Program times will be determined by the interested principle
investigator and research coordinator and will preferably
be scheduled during non-peak seasons. Investigators will
be permitted to be on-site during all work hours (i.e.
from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).
Application:
Application: Interested principle investigators will be
required to submit an application,
a curriculum vitae, and a proposal to conduct scientific
research at Dolphins Plus. Each individual is required
to download the form, fill in all of the requested information,
and mail all documents to the Dolphins Plus scientific
committee for review. There is a $50, non-refundable application
fee. Please review our Research Contract/Policies

detail before submitting an application. If you would

Research
Application Form
Proposed Fees: (prices
subject to change without prior notice)
Application/Registration Fee: $50 (non-refundable)
Administrative Fee: $250
This fee covers correspondence with staff scientists and
animal care technicians and the coordination of flights,
airport transfers*, local accommodations**, application
revisions, and the use and storage of special research
equipment.
Daily Facility Use Fee: $50/day/person
Wet Lab and/or Computer Lab Fee: $10/day/person
SCUBA Fee: $7/tank
Clean-Up Fee (only when necessary): $20
*Airport pick-up and transfers can be
coordinated with local transport service providers from
Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood
International Airport, or Key West International Airport.
**Local accommodations within walking/biking distance
can be coordinated in advance.
Fees Include:
Note: All designated uses require a pre-approval from
the Director of Research and animal care staff members.
* access to all areas designated for use by observers
(e.g. areas surrounding natural dolphin and sea lion enclosures)
* access to most restricted areas (typically for use by
animal care staff only)
* the ability to coordinate research projects with Dolphins
Plus staff and to conduct research on our dolphins and/or
sea lions (non-invasive projects ONLY)
* daily correspondence with members of the Dolphins Plus
staff (within reason)
* use of the staff room, computer lab and software, and
the Dolphins Plus reference library
* use of the water quality lab
* use of outdoor aquaria
Research
Cancellation Policy
Once your proposal has been accepted, you are required
to submit a 50% deposit to confirm your requested dates.
The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your arrival
date. If payments are not made in full at this time, your
deposit will NOT be refunded, and your application will
be terminated. All cancellations must be made in writing
(e-mail is acceptable, upon confirmed receipt of message).
If a confirmed reservation is canceled no less than 60
days prior to your arrival date, a full refund will be
given (deposit and balance, where applicable). If a reservation
is canceled less than 60 days, but more than 30 days prior
to your arrival date, the balance (if applicable) and
50% of the deposit will be refunded. No refunds will be
given for cancellations made less than 30 days prior to
your arrival date. If a principle investigator must cancel
during this time, all deposit and balance fees will be
withheld. No exceptions!
